Since the main sights are so spread out, it is best to explore Havana in sections, beginning with Habana Vieja, where the vast majority of historical sites are located. Habana Vieja is best explored on foot, while it's perhaps best to see the rest of th city using taxis or by hiring a private car and guide. All touristy areas are well patrolled by police, who are usually very helpful.
