Bournemouth Reef Apartment
Refurbished in 2016 to a high standard and featuring high quality beds and mattresses, this comfortable, light & spacious holiday apartment is located a few minutes’ walk from Boscombe pier (0.3 miles) and its Blue Flag beach, and within easy reach of Bournemouth. The apartment has two bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms and can comfortably sleep 4 people.
The apartment is located within the prestigious Burlington Mansions, a historic former hotel still retaining many period features including a grand foyer with revolving door entrance. You can access the communal gardens including the BBQ terrace, and there is a bike rack in the grounds.
Bed linen and towels are included, and if you are staying more than a week we offer a mid-stay linen change. A travel cot and highchair are provided. Other facilities include gas central heating, free Wi-Fi internet, free private parking space, fitted wardrobes in both bedrooms.
The master bedroom with en-suite shower room has a king-sized bed with pocket-sprung mattress and goose feather and down bedding. Anti-allergy pillows are also available. The curved turret windows offer glimpses of the sea and Purbeck cliffs beyond.
The second bedroom, which also has an en-suite bathroom, has twin single beds, again with pocket-sprung mattresses. These beds can be positioned together to form a super-king sized bed.
The spacious lounge/dining room has a new 32” flat-screen TV with Freeview and DVD player. The dining table and chairs can seat up to 5 people. The kitchen is newly tiled and well equipped with full-height fridge-freezer, new electric oven and new gas hob with 5 burners, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine/tumble dryer.
There are plenty of great places to visit within a few minutes’ walk from the apartment. The lovely Boscombe Spa Village offers a coastal activity park, surf centre and shops, restaurants and cafés. Surf boards, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are available to hire on the Overstrand. The iconic Boscombe pier has a music trail for the kids and traditional kiosks selling beach goods. Make sure you try the delicious local Purbeck Ice Cream.
The Pier makes a great place to watch Bournemouth’s fireworks display every Friday in the summer season and of course, the annual Bournemouth Air Festival and new Wheels Festival. Tree lined Boscombe Chine Gardens with its playground, water play area and basketball court is also a short walk away.
From the pier you can walk or cycle along the seafront promenade easterly to Southbourne or westerly to Poole Sandbanks peninsula ending at the jazz café.
Shopping facilities in Boscombe’s traffic free pedestrian precinct are a few minutes’ walk inland and a market is held on Thursdays and Saturdays.
Burlington Mansions, formerly the Burlington Hotel, was built by Sir Henry Drummond Wolff (an English diplomat and politician) in the mid nineteenth century in Italian Renaissance style, with 200 bedrooms and gardens sweeping down to the sea. Wolff was also the man behind Boscombe Chine Gardens and sought to develop Boscombe Spa as a resort.
In nearby Boscombe town centre, the impressive Royal Arcade was opened by the Duke of Connaught (Queen Victoria’s third son) in 1893 and is still open today as a shopping mall.
While you are in Beautiful Dorset you can take the opportunity to visit the World Heritage Jurassic Coast of the Purbecks. The most fun way is to drive to the chain car ferry at Sandbanks via the luxury houses of the Sandbanks Peninsula or if you feel energetic you can cycle along the Promenade from the apartment to the ferry. There is a Jazz Café at the end of Panorama Road for a coffee stop and many famous pubs on the Purbeck Coastal Path.
Just a few minutes away near the pier, Boscombe Spa Village has an activity park for adults and children alike, with outdoor gym, table tennis a climbing rock and music trail on the pier for the children. The promenade is great place for walking, running, roller blading or cycling (but check out the leaflet on how and when in the hamper)
If you’re keen on water sports, Sorted Surf Shop and the Surf Centre hire wet suits and equipment for surfing, kayaking and stand up paddle-boarding. They offer tuition too. Lifeguards are on duty at Boscombe, Bournemouth and Southbourne looking out for your safety.
