In the Lake District National Park the closest of the lakes is Ullswater - Britain's second largest lake, considered by many to be the Lake District's most attractive lake. It was here that Wordsworth was inspired to write the poem 'Daffodils'. One of the hills leading down to the lake is the magnificent Helvellyn with its famous Striding Edge - a 'must' for any walker. Ullswater is just a short drive to the south of Hall Hills.

Heading west and almost as close is Keswick - a major Lake District market town on the shores of a very popular lake: Derwentwater. Keswick can get very busy in high season but Derwentwater and Borrowdale (just to the south) are well worth a visit.

Just to the east is the Eden Valley, with the River Eden running past Penrith and through Carlisle to the Solway Firth. Eden attractions inlcude Little Salkeld, near which is Long Meg and Her Daughters - one of the largest neolithic stone circles in England - plus the Little Salkeld Watermill, and over the River Eden is Eden Ostrich World.

Head to the Scottish Borders through Carlisle - Cumbria's capital city and one rich in history. The city's numerous attractions include Carlisle Cathedral and Carlisle Castle, Tullie House Museum, the Millennium Gallery, the Carlisle Bird of Prey Centre, Carlisle Race Course, the Stanwix Art Gallery. The BIG Scottish Border attraction is Hadrian's Wall - a World Heritage Site. Go on the Hadrian's Wall walk in Carlisle or visit Vindolanda.
