Babington’s Cottage is owned and run by Maggie Babington. It has recently been upgraded and reflects Maggie’s passions for Art, Interior Design, History, Geology and the Scottish Borders.
Her family over the centuries have had a rich history including some notable forbears. Originally from France, the de Babingtons settled in Northumberland in the 12th Century. William Babington (1756-1833) an eminent Physician was President of the Geological Society in London. A statue of him by William Behnes (1795-1864) is in St Pauls Cathedral and also the Royal College of Physicians in London.
Babingtonite , a rare mineral was named after him.
If you are interested in local geology we highly recommend the James Hutton Trail.
