As the only two-time winner of England's Self Catering Holiday of the Year and winner of many other major awards, Beacon Hill Farm arguably offers England's finest holiday cottage experience and boasts a superb Spa offering a wide range of leisure facilities - including a swimming pool with jacuzzi, gymnasium, beauty salon and riding stables - that many top class hotels do not come close to matching.

Situated deep in the unspoilt countryside between the Cheviot Hills and the magnificent Northumbrian coastline, Beacon Hill Farm stands on the site of an ancient beacon and has marvellous views in all directions. Because of its elevated position, Beacon Hill has always been of local strategic importance and there is evidence of an Iron Age village around the hill top.

Beacon Hill is a 350 acre grass farm with 40 acres of ancient beech woods that are home to a wide variety of birds and animals. Ideal for the walker or nature lover and extremely safe and exciting for children, the woods form a marvellous natural playground.

Our Holiday Cottages

We have twelve cottages - with three new ones opening in April 2006 - on our beautiful 350 acre farm, with acres of woodland and marvellous views to the coast and Cheviot Hills. The cottages, which are set in landscaped gardens in the middle of the estate, are all of an exceptional standard.

Beacon Hill has won more awards for quality than almost any other similar business in England. We are the only business to have reached the final of England's Self-Catering Holiday of the Year on three occasions, and the only one to have won this prestigious award twice, in 1991 and 2000.

Each holiday cottage is fully equipped with everything one could possibly need, including colour television, fan-assisted and microwave ovens, dishwasher, washer-drier and deep freeze. All have central heating, masses of books, colour television, radio, quality pictures and prints, comfortable chairs and superb views; most even have log fires. All cottages have a CD player.

Leisure - Beacon Hill Spa

The Spa is open from 7.00 am to 10.00 pm every day of the year. It is a large building in a wonderful location located just a short walk through the grounds from the holiday cottages. There are a wide range of treatments available at the Spa. The pool is heated to 30 degrees and there are tables and chairs in which one can enjoy a complimentary tea or coffee. There are six showers and two loos in the building and three different rooms in which one can relax. In addition to the changing areas, we have two dedicated baby changing rooms complete with everything a parent might need.

Apart from the swimming pool there is ...

... a Steam Room with a real difference; the walls and seats are fashioned from black granite which is heated to give a gentle penetrating heat and the steam is gently scented with a choice of exotic aromas to complete the experience.

... a Sauna in Canadian redwood, set at around 90°C with a large glass door. Next to these two rooms is a cascade shower for that invigorating cold douche to refresh one between sauna and steam sessions - ideal to cleanse ones skin and purge the toxins from ones body.

... the Laconium Therapy Room has four heated beds on a heated floor in a south-facing room off the swimming pool; the views across the gardens from here are beautiful. Whilst lying on the body-form beds, which were imported from Baden Baden, the heat permeates the body causing a release of toxins and inducing a feeling of deep relaxation. The room is bathed in aromatherapy oil and, with the soothing sound of the wall fountain and gentle classical music, it is not unusual for guests to spend an hour or more lying on the beds, often drifting off into a deep, relaxing sleep. This is a form of mild sauna bathing that is very popular in Bavaria. You will not find another room like this in the whole of the United Kingdom!

... the Jacuzzi is situated in a tiled room off the pool and has wonderful views across the gardens. At night, the Jacuzzi is lit from within and one can enjoy the pulsating warm water on ones own, with someone special or with a group of friends in a unique atmosphere.

... the Gymnasium has a wide range of aerobic and power machinery. There are two running machines, two spinner bikes, two dual action air bikes, a Concept rower, and a further seven fixed-weight machines aimed at toning different muscle groups. The gym has a sprung floor where one can perform aerobic exercises, either to music or to a video. Chilled water, tea and coffee are available in the gym as well as gym towels.

... the Orangery, which opens from the south end of the pool, has 180 degree views through floor to ceiling windows over the gardens and countryside to the south and west of Beacon Hill. This room has a heated floor and steamer loungers. Guests love to rest in here, perhaps with a coffee and a magazine, or just to relax!

... the Garden Room is a dry relaxation room opening on to a paved sun terrace. Complimentary tea, coffee and herbal drinks are available as well as a full range of magazines.

... the Beauty Salon is run by our resident beautician, Jean McClymont. We have two fully equipped salons, offering a wide range of health and beauty treatments, including reflexology. A wide range of beauty treatments is available.

Kate Howard's Homemade Meals

Beacon Hill Cottages offers you the chance to order home cooked meals which will be delivered to the freezer in your cottage or defrosted ready for the oven on the day of your arrival.

Kate Howard lives locally and has several years experience catering for and organising weddings and private parties in a large country house. She uses local and seasonal ingredients wherever possible.
