The local area is ideal for walking, rambling horse riding, cycling etc Accommodation situated in a rural working village amongst peaceful surroundings for total relaxation We are 1hr from the coast of Figueira da Foz 30 mins drive from the university city of Coimbra.
During the summer there are many fiestas in the area.
There is a lively weekly market at Ansiao every Saturday approx 8 kms away.
November sees the International Horse Fair at Golega where people from all over the world come to see the beautiful Lusitano Horses and the wonderful horsemanship shown by their riders.
The region offers a wide variety of wines, which are made by the local Portuguese people and are renowned for their quality. White wines are fresh fruity and balanced, while the reds are full bodied.
You will find the local Portuguese people very friendly and welcoming.
Places of Interest to visit
Penela
Small picturesque town with semi-ruined castle ( free entry to public )- lovely views. Indoor public swimming pool. Market every Thursday.
Conimbriga
Ruins of a Roman City. Worth seeing even if you are not a history buff. Well preserved mosaics. Very exposed, so not recommended for a hot afternoon. Prices also includes admission to the museum.
Tomar
Head for the old part of Tomar, alongside the river. One of Portugal's most beautiful and historic towns. Above the town is an old convent and castle of the Knights of Christ, worth a visit. Very busy in summer.
Fatima
Portugal's answer to Lourdes. Has a grandly impressive shrine with a great open space in the front for the faithful. Busy 13th of each month, impossible on May 13th or at Easter.
Batalha
A very imposing Gothic edifice, well worth a visit. Unforgettable when lit up at night. Precinct with shops, cafe's and restaurants.
