Dalhanna
Dalhanna - a modern Self Catering Cottage offering families and couples a very comfortable and peaceful stay in the tranquil surroundings of Isle of Harris. Situated within 5 minutes of the Ferry Terminal in Tarbert, Harris. Dalhanna combines the warmth and comfort of home with wonderful unspoilt views of Loch Tarbert where seals and dolphins swim, and terns, oystercatchers and guillemots search for food in the clear western waters. Looking further there are wondrous views over the Minch to the Isle of Skye.
Here on the edge of Europe is a striking mix of landscapes from windswept golden sands to harsh, heather-backed mountains and peat bogs. An elemental beauty pervades each of the more than two hundred islands that make up the archipelago. Lewis and Harris form the northernmost island in the Hebrides. Though actually part of the same land mass, they are thought of as different islands and each has its own distinctive culture, traditions and heritage.
Lewis in the north is the largest island in the group and its main town of Stornoway is a busy centre of island life, its natural harbour a thriving fishing port. Harris is home to the world-famous Harris Tweed, which has to be made on these islands if it carries the name. Across a narrow isthmus from the more mountainous North Harris lies South Harris, presenting some of the finest scenery in Scotland, with wide beaches of golden sand trimming the Atlantic in full view of the mountains and a rough boulder-strewn interior lying to the east.
Harris is a beautiful island of contrasts with spectacular scenery and a unique unspoilt atmosphere.
Tarbert is the main centre in Harris, and the accommodation is close to Ferry links to North Uist and Skye and a short walk to local amenities (shops, restaurants, tourist information, swimming pool/sports centre, bank etc).
Unspoilt beaches within 20 minutes drive either to the south or west of the accommodation. Dalhanna is an ideal base for a family or couples holiday. Other sporting activities such as golf (nine holes), tennis, fishing, swimming, sports exercise, walking and cycling can all be found locally. A larger variety of sporting and leisure facilities are available in Stornoway.
Regular BA flights to Stornoway from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Caledonian MacBrayne operate ferry sailings to both Harris and Lewis
Uig (Isle of Skye) - Tarbert, Isle of Harris
Ullapool - Stornoway, Isle of Lewis.
Dalanna is located within five minutes of Caledonian MacBrayne Ferry Terminal in Tarbert. During the summer, a ferry runs from Uig on the Isle of Skye to Tarbert, the main village on Harris, twice a day except on Sundays. There are fewer sailings in winter. It takes 1 hour 35 minutes to cross the Minch. Vehicle reservation required. Look out for dolphins.
People come from all over the world to visit St. Clements church in Rodel, where the Macleod chiefs used to worship in the early 1500's
