Vrede en Lust Wine Farm
Vrede en Lust, derived from the Dutch 'Peace and Eagerness' is a modern wine farm, building on a 315 year old foundation. Its vision is to become one of South Africa's best loved wineries by delivering a level of customer experience that exceeds all expectations.
The farm is located in the centre of the Cape Winelands, on the eastern slopes of the Simonsberg, and nestled in between the top notch Rupert de Rothschild (Fredericksburg) and Plaisir de Merle estates. The vineyards are classified under the Wine of Origin ward Simonsberg-Paarl, as part of the Paarl Wine Region. Vrede en Lust produces more than 80% of its grapes on the estate and sources the balance from top quality grape growers in the region.
Vrede en Lust was established by the French Huguenot, Jacques de Savoye in 1688. De Savoye immediately started improving the 60 morgen (55 Ha) of land that starts on the Berg River Valley floor and runs up the eastern foothills of the majestic Simonsberg mountain. More than 10,000 vines were planted by 1691, which grew to 80,000 by 1780.
A stay on our farm is a unique experience that keeps our guests coming back. Our accommodations are located in arms length of the vineyards with large oak trees providing ample shade. From here one can walk run or cycle through the vineyards all the way to the top of the farm or up into the forests above for a breathtaking view of the region. With Franschhoek, Paarl and Stellenbosch all in close proximity to the farm there is always something to do.
The Manor House and Guest Cottages are ideal for wedding parties held at Vrede en Lust in which we offer exclusive irresistible packages. Whether you are staying for a week or just for the weekend, be sure that you will enjoy your exclusive private time in the heart of the Cape Winelands.
Guest Cottages
We have two guest cottages that form part of the historic ´Jonkmanshuis´, located between the new winery and the Manor House.
The Jonkmanshuis contains 3 units, all named after the children of Jacques de Savoye, and is located next to the only chardonnay block on the farm.
From here you can explore the winelands, go for long walks, runs or cycles. There are a huge selection of restaurants within a 20 minute range which covers Franschhoek, Paarl and Stellenbosch.
