Mactavishs Cottage
In an outstanding location on the edge of Loch Fyne, with stunning scenery and superb walks, Darroch Beag, a traditional 19th century cottage offers accommodation of a particularly high standard.
The landscape or seascape painter or photographer could find no better location. The cottage is situated in a very quiet position on an old shore road and is available for rent throughout the year.
The very comfortable lounge with loch view, has satellite television, dvd, video and cd/radio/cassette player and a good selection of books, maps and details of places of interest. In addition to the open fire in the lounge, the property has full oil fired central heating (for those who are not too adept at rubbing two sticks together etc.).
The large kitchen, again with a view of the loch is exceptionally well-equipped including dishwasher, tumble drier and microwave. There is one double and one twin bedroom again with wonderful views of Loch Fyne, exceptionally comfortable beds, cosy duvets and in the bathroom, wonderful fluffy towels.
The location is excellent for exploring the many places of interest near Loch Fyne including Kilmartin which is littered with ancient monuments from the times when the Irish Celts built a fort and settled her in the 5th century, Crinan Canal which links Loch Fyne, the longest sea loch in Scotland, to the sound of Jura. On then to Tarbert and then to Claonaig with its ferry service to Arran, a wonderful island with tremendous variation in landscape often called Scotland in miniature.
Head further south down the Mull of Kintyre toward Campbeltown and perhaps take a short ferry trip across to the island of Gigha. Another wonderful trip is to the island of Bute where you will find Mt Stuart a magnificent and unique 18th century gothic mansion built by the 2nd Earl of Bute, a 'must see'.
With Glasgow just over one hour distant and Edinburgh but two hours the options are endless. So why not visit this wonderful area and see for yourself? Once you arrive you may just decide to relax, look out for the seals and otters and watch the wonderful sunsets across the Loch!
