The Old Exchange self catering holiday cottage in Scotland

The Old Exchange is a wonderful self catering holiday cottage located at the heart of the National Trust for Scotland estate of Threave Castle and Gardens. There are 4 different accommodations, each sleeping 3,3,4 and 4 or one group of up to 14. Designed by an architect for self-catering use and recently refurbished, this makes for a fantastic base for your holiday here.

a wonderful rugged coastline.

There are lots of family attractions like open farms, ruined castles, adventure playgrounds, we are located next to Loch Ken where there is a watersports centre that the kids can go to for a day and experience canoeing, windsurfing and rafting.

I send my own children (3 boys) here every summer and they love it. We also have pony trekking centre just a few miles away that cater for holiday makers, we have a water skiing school where you can go for an hour or two (there is a special novice course)

There is a quad bike tour nearby and the fishing is legendary, with coastal waters, rivers and lochs. We have a boat trip that can take you into the Solway estuary and many of our guests have seen dolphins. There are nature walks that are guided by the national Trust rangers at Threave Gardens.

There is the otter pool along the raiders road. Just a few miles away is the Red Kite centre where you can see the results of the re-introduction of Red Kites to Scotland, and the feeding station is just the most magnificent sight.

There are over 30 gardens open to the public, including Threave Gardens (just up the lane) and because of our temperate weather many exotic plants can live here as displayed at Logan Botanic garden, there are also over 30 Golf Courses in Dumfries and Galloway, Castle Douglas is the local course, up to international courses like Southerness.
