The Fowey Estuary is considered by many to be one of the most attractive and unspoiled areas on the South coast. The river Fowey rises on Bodmin Moor and meanders through wonderful countryside towards Fowey's natural harbour and the sea. Many fascinating hours can be spent just watching the river. The huge China Clay boats regularly pass by on their way to the loading wharf up-river and to see the tugs turn these boats in the entrance to Pont Pil (just outside the apartment window) is a sight worth watching. A wide variety of craft uses the river, from the water taxis and working boats to pleasure craft, whether small dinghys or truly impressive yachts!
For those who enjoy walking there are numerous local routes, many through land owned by the National Trust. Whether you enjoy a gentle stroll or prefer more of a challenge you will find something to suit your taste and there is a local guide book in the apartment for use by guests.
Other local places of interest include The Eden Project (get your fast-track ticket from the Tourist Office before you go), the Lost Gardens of Helligan, the National Trust house Lanhydrock - all within just a few miles' drive.
Fowey provides restaurants, pubs, tea rooms and good quality shops. A general convenience store, excellent delicatessen, fresh meat, wonderful local fish and good wines are all available within an easy stroll of the apartment.
