Mill Cottage occupies an idyllic location in attractive rolling countryside in the historic Parish of Irongray. It sits besides the Old Water which runs from nearby Glenkiln, famed for its outdoor sculptures by Moore, Epstein and Rodin. Dumfries, 'Queen of the South', is a little more than ten minutes drive away along quiet country lanes.
Originally the home of the miller of Barnsoul Corn Mill, Mill Cottage has been modernised to provide a comfortable and cosy rural retreat for holidays throughout the year. The cottage has its own fully enclosed garden with access to a picnic spot beside the stream. There are peaceful rural views from the cottage and garden where red squirrel are frequent visitors along with a great variety of birdlife.
The comfortable and well equipped accommodation at Mill Cottage comprises: one double bedroom, one twin bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, sitting/dining room. There are ample storage radiators and convector heaters, along with a wood burning stove for cosy winter evenings. All electricity and logs are included in the price. A cot and high chair are available if required.
Children can meet and make friends with our ponies, goats and hens. Pets are welcome by arrangement.
The area offers ample opportunity for walks over rolling hills or gentle strolls along quiet country lanes. For cyclists, a loop of the National Cycle Byway runs close by. For nature lovers, Mill Cottage is centrally located for the Caelaverock Wetlands Centre, and the RSPB reserves at Mersehead and Ken Dee. The coastline, hills, forests, lochs, glens, castles, historic sites and visitor attractactions of Dumfries and Galloway are all readily accessible.
