Magnificent Rock House in the Centre of Slane Village
Rock Court is a town house set with in the walled court yard of the magnificent Rock House on the North East corner of the center of Slane village in the Royal County of Meath. The picturesque village of Slane overlooks the magnificent Boyne river in the historically significant Boyne valley.
Rock House was built in 1762, it was the first of the four “Sister” Georgian houses which define the borders of the octagonal center of Slane.
The village of Slane was one of the first planned estate villages in Ireland, it was the work of the then Viscount Conyngham who is an ansestor to the current Earl of Mount Charles who's home is to this day Slane Castle.
The original occupants of the other three houses were The Clergy, The Doctor and The Magistrate.
This strategic planning meant that the main aspects of everyday life covering Health, Religion, Law and Order and Social Life were clearly established as the center of the community.
The House was originally an Inn where travellers, their coach drivers and horses rested over night.
