The New Forest
New Forest Holiday Accommodation and Forest Edge are surrounded by the New Forest with many woodland and moorland tracks for you to explore on foot, cycle or horseback. We are fortunate to have a wide variety of wild birds and animals living around us - it is often possible to watch wild deer from our property. The Forest is an ancient home to a huge variety of wildlife including Red, Sika and Fallow deer, ponies, donkeys and even domestic pigs and cattle.
Although called a 'Forest', much of the New Forest is open heathland and moorland covered in heather, gorse and general scrub. The woodland is a mixture of large areas of ancient broadleaved trees and more recent, managed coniferous plantations. The Forestry Commission have laid many tracks through these for walking and cycling. Maps are available from the visitor centres.
There are many other recreational opportunities close by, Hamptworth and Bramshaw golf courses, horse riding, coarse and fly fishing, together with the grand houses of Beaulieu, Wilton and Breamore. Lord Montagu's National Motor Museum at Beaulieu with its 300 ancient vehicles and motoring memorabilia is a great day out. The prehistoric monuments at Stonehenge are only 40 minutes drive away. As are the beaches of Highcliffe, Bournemouth and Mudeford. Mudeford Harbour offers fishing, crabbing and deep sea fishing.
