Primrose Cottage, Sandwich
Primrose Cottage offers charming holiday accommodation in the heart of medieval Sandwich. It is a historic listed building, grade 2 listed and dating back to the 17th century. Compact and quirky, it boasts beams, an inglenook fireplace, stripped pine panelling and other period features. A log burner and chestnut roasting pan make for a cosy atmosphere in winter whilst a private courtyard provides a quiet spot to sit outside on a sunny day.
The cottage sleeps four in one double bedroom plus a twin attic bedroom. Please note headroom is restricted in some places and the attic bedroom is up a second flight of very steep stairs. The twin room is therefore not suitable for young children or infirm people.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome by prior arrangement.
Facilities include gas central heating, TVs, DVD players, washing machine, tumble dryer and much more. Linen and utilities are included in the holiday price. The owners have supplied many personal touches and the house is tastefully and comfortably furnished throughout.
A town centre situation puts all amenities right on the doorstep. They include an interesting range of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants, a mainline station (trains to London), banks, public library with free wi-fi access, river, quayside and formal gardens.
Sandwich is a peaceful little town with a population of about 6,000. It is one of the original Cinque Ports which supplied ships and men to the British navy in the Middle ages.
You can take a boat trip upstream to Richborough Roman fort or downstream to spot seals in the bay. Or you can stroll the old town walls or take a walk across St George's golf course to unspoiled Sandwich Bay.
Just a little further afield are the castles of Dover, Deal, Walmer and Leeds (Maidstone); the old cathedral city of Canterbury; a host of traditional country pubs; the Isle of Thanet's beaches; Ramsgate Royal Harbour and the channel ports, which offer day trips to France or Belgium.
