Jon, Sarah and family welcome you to Vale Farm in the heart of the beautiful Blackmore Vale. Our luxury 4 star barn conversions are set in outstanding countryside and the area has some of the most picturesque views and wonderful walks, described as 'the prettiest pocket of Dorset'.

There are many lovely cycle routes and we are also close to a Golf Driving Range, a super sports centre, riding stables and two village shops/post offices, one with a delicious in-store bakery for freshly baked bread, croissants and pies.

With charming country pubs, fine restaurants, quaint tea rooms and many other attractions, too numerous to mention them all, we are an ideal touring base, whether you are an energetic family or simply want the peace and quiet that a holiday in Dorset brings.

Visitors are welcome to watch the cows being milked, feed the calves, walk the puppies (two springer spaniels 'Ruby and Gem') and enjoy 'staying on a farm'. There are free range eggs available at our neighbours, approx 1 mile away.

Accommodation

Barnside - is a single storey barn conversion, beautifully furnished, which sleeps 6 (& cot) and consists of:- double bedroom, 2 twin rooms, a large lounge/dining room with colour t.v., a bath/shower room with w.c., hand basin and shaver point, cloakroom with handbasin and w.c.

Barnside also offers an exceptionally well equipped kitchen with fully fitted units housing a fridge/freezer, washing machine, electric cooker and microwave. This property is also wheelchair friendly.

Penwood View - which sleeps 2, also tastefully furnished, houses a four-poster bed, ensuite bath/shower room with w.c., hand basin and shaver point, lounge with colour t.v, kitchen/diner, also exceptionally well equipped, with fully fitted units, fridge/freezer, washing machine, electric cooker and microwave.

Both properties have full central heating, large patio areas, a childrens play/picnic area and football pitch. We also have a super family games room with skittle alley, table-tennis table, pool, darts, home gym, juke-box and tumble drier. There is ample off road parking.

History & Attractions

The slopes of Hambledon hill visible from the cottages show ramparts of an Iron Age hillfort - and are where Dorset clubmen were routed by Cromwell in 1645 during the civil war.

Nearby is the beautiful town of Shaftesbury (4 miles) legenday burial ground of King Alfred and famous for the cobbled 'Gold Hill' filmed in the Hovis advert.

Attractions within easy reach include:- Cheddar Caves, Longleat Safari Park, Fleet Air Arm Museum, Stourhead Gardens, Stonehenge and the cathedral cities of Bath and Salisbury.

We are within 40 minutes reach of Bournemouth, Poole, Swanage, Weymouth and the New Forest.

The Dorset coastline has been officially ranked alongside the Great Barrier Reef and Grand Canyon as one of the natural wonders of the world. The Jurassic coastline has become the first World Heritage site in England, and has an amazing wealth of fossils and landforms, making a great family day out.

Thomas Hardy, the renowned English Victorian novelist, was born in this beautiful thatched cottage at Higher Bockhampton, near Dorchester in 1840. Shown here in the summer, it was in this cottage he wrote many of his earlier novels including 'Far From the Madding Crowd', 'Under the Greenwood Tree' and 'Desperate Remedies'.

Directions

From the main A350 Blandford to Shaftesbury road, take the turning marked 'Village Centre' when you reach Sutton Waldron. Travel for approximately 1 mile and holiday homes can be seen directly in front of you at the T-junction.
