Welcome to Les Cerisiers, a beautiful holiday home in wonderful Southern Burgundy
Nestled half way up the south facing slope of a beautiful valley, this lovely farmhouse looks out across fields of grazing Charollaise cattle and meadows filled with wild flowers during springtime and summer. The lane that runs past the front gates is bordered with foxgloves in May and June and blackberries, (which go very nicely with the apples from the orchard) in the autumn. Directly opposite you can see the beautiful, wooded slopes, with their ever changing shades of green, of Mont St. Cyr. The village of Montmelard dominates the nearby hill, with its impressive church spire silhouetted against the skyline. On clear nights glance upwards and be stunned by the breathtaking sight of the Milky Way stretching out forever.
Downstairs you will find a large fully equipped kitchen with dish washer, fridge/freezer, cooker and a long table which comfortably seats twelve. The kitchen was installed in 2007 yet maintains the character of the house. Windows at both ends ensure plenty of light and views across the fields as well as Mont St Cyr, the highest point in southern Burgundy rising to 771 metres. The relaxing and spacious living room with its enormous stone fireplace, sofas, armchairs and book cases, presents the perfect setting to unwind with a book, watch a film, listen to some music or play a board game. The first bedroom offers wooden framed twin beds, en suite bathroom and looks out across fields and woodland with not another building in sight.
The next room is a cosy and south-facing double room that catches the sunlight all day. From the shuttered double windows you have spectacular views of Mont St Cyr. Another double room looks out onto the farmland and woods to the back of the house. The simple furnishings and neutral tones offer a tranquil place to lay your head. Climb the wooden stairs to the second floor where both upper bedrooms have beautifully exposed beam work revealing traditional building techniques.
Both rooms have newly installed en suite shower rooms with toilet and wash basin. The great big orchard, with its many cherry, apple, pear, walnut, plum, damson and quince trees (please help yourselves when the fruit is in season) makes a wonderful setting for dining al fresco or simply sitting and taking in the clear air and splendid views. Have a picnic in the shade or, if you prefer a large wooden garden table and chairs, and a huge parasol are available.
The swimming pool is 5 x 10 metres and flood-lit giving an opportunity to take some exercise, calmly float or splash around on a hot afternoon. It has a limestone paved surround where you can relax on sun beds complete with comfortable mattresses. There is a large brick built BBQ for outdoor cooking close by the pool. In August, the tranquil setting is all the more charming for the glow worms in the hedge rows and the shooting stars overhead.
