Plum Tree Cottage
Plum Tree Cottage is a charming Grade II listed, late 18th century, stone cottage situated within the secluded conservation area of Herston, Swanage. The detached cottage was formerly two workmen’s cottages, which were combined and sympathetically restored 15 years ago.
Plum Tree Cottage provides comfortable four star self-catering holiday accommodation all year round for up to 8 people. Children and dogs are welcome too and there is a large enclosed garden where they can play safely. There is off road parking and secure cycle storage.
Whatever your idea of a perfect holiday, the Isle of Purbeck has something for everyone. Plum Tree Cottage is ideally situated for exploring the area, being close to beautiful open countryside and only a 15 minute walk into the centre of Swanage and the beach.
The surrounding landscape is truly special, and unsurprisingly most of the Isle of Purbeck is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The stunning, Jurassic coastline has been adjudged one of the few World Heritage Sites, and boasts spectacular geological features.
There are plenty of guide books and maps available at Plum Tree Cottage to help you plan your days out, but if you prefer to take it easy, the Cottage is a comfortable home away from home, with a wide selection of books, Sky TV, DVDs, free WiFi and games.
Built over 200 years ago of Purbeck stone, Plum Tree Cottage is full of charm and character, and retains many of its original features. The cottage comprises 2 double bedrooms, 2 twin bedrooms, 3 bathrooms/shower rooms, a spacious lounge and separate dining room, a conservatory and a fully fitted kitchen overlooking the beautiful enclosed garden. The cottage is comfortably furnished and has central heating throughout in addition to the wood burning stoves located in the reception rooms.
Plum Tree Cottage offers plenty of space in which to relax. The Lounge is full of charm and character with exposed beams, stonewalls and a multi-fuel burning stove set in a Purbeck stone fireplace. There is plenty of comfortable seating with Sky TV, DVD/CD player with cinema surround sound, and a selection of DVDs, games and books for your enjoyment. We also offer free WiFi internet access to our guests. The lounge opens into the conservatory, providing another seating area overlooking the pretty garden and patio area.
The Dining Room is a cosy room with gas fired stove set in a Purbeck stone fireplace. The dining table seats 8 adults and there is a high chair available for younger diners.
The fully fitted kitchen is equipped with everything you will need to ensure your holiday is as care free as possible. There is a fridge/freezer, large fan assisted electric cooker with gas hob, dishwasher, microwave and all the usual kitchen appliances, crockery and utensils. To help you settle in, we provide a welcome pack including tea, coffee, milk and sugar so you can unwind from your journey before having to go shopping.
Plum Tree Cottage has 2 shower rooms, both with wash hand basins and WCs, and a bathroom with a shower over the bath, wash hand basin and WC. There is also a downstairs WC.
The bedrooms are arranged over the first and second floors. Stair gates are fitted to the top of each flight of stairs for children’s safety. On the first floor is the spacious master bedroom, which has a king size bed and space for a cot. (There is a travel cot available at the cottage.) This room has views over the Purbeck hills and there is an adjacent bathroom and WC with a shower over the bath. Also located on the first floor is one of the twin bedrooms, with full size 3’ single beds. There is an adjacent shower room with WC.
Going up to the second floor is the attic double bedroom with 4’6” bed. This room is full of character, with sloping ceilings and exposed beams. On this floor is also the attic twin bedroom, again with full size (3’) twin beds. Like the attic double bedroom, this room also has sloping ceilings and exposed beams. Please note that this bedroom is approached via a shower room with WC.
Plum Tree Cottage has a beautiful, large garden enclosed by Purbeck stone walls and hedging, with lawn and a good sized patio area. There is ample garden seating and a barbecue.
Outside is the laundry/boot room, with a washing machine and plenty of space to store any muddy outdoor gear.
Off-road parking for one car is available for the exclusive use of our guests, and there are no parking restrictions in this section of Bell Street, so cars can be parked on the road.
