The Nook Holiday Cottage, Norfolk
The Nook is a bright and airy holiday cottage sleeping four which is avaliable throughout the year for shortbreaks and weekly rentals
Well equipped and comfortably furnished, the cottage is set back from the road in the quiet village of Knapton, just one and a half miles from the coastal village of Mundesley.
The charm of the cottage is provided by its original features and exposed roof timbers, together with a tranquil and private rear garden.
The cottage offers a peaceful retreat and yet is also well situated for the areas' many attractions with the Broads only eigth miles away and an award winning beach nearby.
The property offers a quiet base from which to enjoy the nearby coastline and neighbouring countryside with its open skies, churches and windmills.
The Norfolk Broads, the National Trust Properties of Felbrigg and Blickling and numerous tourist attractions are within easy reach and the historic City of Norwich is less than twenty miles away.
Knapton is a peaceful village yet only a mile and a half from pubs, places to eat, and shops. The village itself is situated on the North Norfolk 'quiet lane' scheme enabling safe cycling and pleasant walking.
There are many footpaths in the immediate area, giving the opportunity to enjoy circular walks of varying distances. One such footpath starts opposite the cottage. The village has a historic church, playing field with childrens' playground and a social club. There is also a children's soft play centre, perfect to entertain young children on rainy days.
The wonderful North Norfolk beaches are close at hand with that of Mundesley only one and a half miles away. This sandy beach with some tidal pools is backed by a raised promenade lined with colourful traditional wooden beach huts. Volunteer lifeguards patrol the beach and man an inshore lifeboat. A beach side café sells traditional seaside food, snacks and drink and is a great place to have breakfast with the Sunday newspapers. Toilet facilities with showers are conveniently situated adjacent to the café. The beach has been awarded the European Blue Flag for its waters and high standards for many years running. Low cliffs form the backdrop and beautiful cliff top gardens offer an alternative quiet area to sit and relax. More shops, a maritime museum (possibly England's smallest) restaurant, pub and miniature golf course are adjacent to a large tarmac car park with an overflow grassed area which can be used for picnics.
The old-fashioned village of Mundesley also provides the nearest facilities with an excellent butchers, greengrocers and fish van as well as post-office, chemist, hardware shop and late- opening convenience store.
There are also a variety of pubs and cafes, an excellent Chinese take-away and a fish and chip shop. Mundesley also has a nine hole golf course and driving range which welcome visitors.
The market-town of North Walsham with its large Sainsburys supermarket and further shops and facilities including ten-pin bowling and swimming pool is only ten minutes away.
Accommodation
The front door leads straight into the welcoming sitting room. Tastefully furnished with two comfortable sofas and a coffee table, the room with its exposed timbers and wood-burner, is the perfect place to unwind after a day enjoying the coast or country. There is a colour television, video player with a selection of videos, CD/tape/radio and plenty of books to help you unwind. Here you will also find a wealth of information about the local area and its attractions.
The sitting room leads into a rear hall-cum-utility area, as well as a washer-dryer and airing cupboard there is space to leave coats and boots etc. A door goes through to the kitchen/ dining room. Unfitted antique pine units and a butler's sink, an electric cooker, fridge, freezer and microwave oven equip the kitchen to a high standard. There is a good-sized pine dining table and four chairs. A highchair can be provided upon request. As well as by a path to the side of the property, the rear garden is reached through French doors from the kitchen.
Accessed from the utility area, the fully tiled bathroom is functional with WC, basin, bath and electric shower.
From the sitting room, cottage stairs lead to the first floor. The characterful master bedroom is a good size with its ceiling following the line of the roof and exposed beams. The double bed and quiet location should ensure a good night's sleep. Bed linen is provided.
The second bedroom with its bunk beds is accessed through the master bedroom. It also has a high ceiling and beams. There are some games and toys to occupy children.
There is room in either the master or second bedroom for a travel cot which can also be provided if requested.
Outside to the front a garden is mainly laid to lawn and has off-road parking for one car. A gated narrow passageway leads around to the fully enclosed rear garden. Some steps access a terrace, with garden furniture and barbeque. At the end of the small lawned area is an old summerhouse enveloped in vines and honeysuckle.
Beach Hut
Our beach hut at Mundesley Beach is available for an additional £50 per week. As well as providing shelter from an unwelcome shower, the hut is equipped with windbreaks, chairs, umbrella and buckets and spades.
Families
Our young family and many others have enjoyed the cottage, its bunk beds, toys and videos. A cot and high chair can be provided. The stairs are gated at the top and behind a door at the bottom. The garden does have a raised terrace and unguarded steps.
Pets
The back door, hard flooring of the utility area and kitchen and enclosed rear garden mean a well-behaved dog can be managed at the cottage, for which there is an additional £15 charge. We do ask that dogs are kept off the sofas and not allowed upstairs.
Those with Disabilities
Its steps and narrow steep winding stairs might give some people with disabilities or the frail elderly some problems. Should you have any concerns we would be pleased to discuss these aspects with you.
